Things on my mind.......

Lately I've been doing much heavy thinking.

Heavy thinking about the heavy digging, heavy lifting, heavy tilling, etc. that I'll be doing in my garden this year once we return to Washington State.  LOL

Last year I had an idea to make my life a bit simpler.  I purchased 9 half barrels and planted some of my vegetables in those.  Much easier on the weeding as well as bending over.

Also, last year my husband and son made a new garden spot for me but in a matter of weeks the weeds were monsters, taking over everything.  By the end of the summer the grass and weeds were over 4 feet tall!

LASAGNA GARDENING
I recently found this book which has some great ideas that I'm going to use in my garden this year.

NEW GARDEN AREA
This is an idea for last year's "weedy, out of control" garden area:

Basically we will remove the top sod in the garden area, then lay down some very heavy duty landscape material for weed control. (We will probably use RR ties or blocks to anchor down the material.) After the the barrels are set in place we'll top the material with bark, gravel, sand, or(?).

A couple of years ago my husband built me a few wooden boxes from scrap lumber (about 3 feet high and 2 feet in diameter).  They had no bottom and were placed over my dahlias for support.  Something like these can also be used instead of barrels, but with a bottom piece added.

CHANGE

This is what my garden will look like when I go back to Washington at the end of April.

This is what it looks like in August! Well, not exactly the same since I change things around all the time!

MORE ON MY MIND
We all need to be aware and keep ourselves informed on organizations that intend to do harm to us or others. We also need to inform others of these and it is not with the intent of promoting racism but viewing this as "common sense" survival.

Hamas is the Islamic Resistance Movement out of Palestine. Hamas was created in 1987 by Sheikh Ahmed Yassin who died in 2004. The current leader  is Khaled Meshal. Hamas is known as a terrorist group.

I have previously posted this video of the University of California (San Diego Campus) student who openly admitted her support for Hamas. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPjpqiCxc4o
The speaker Horowitz makes the statement: “I’m a Jew.  The head of Hezbollah (an extremist Shiite Muslim group that has close links with Iran) has said that he hopes that we (Jews) will gather in Israel so he doesn’t have to hunt us down globally.”
Horowitz then asks the student: “For it or against it?”
The student replies: “For it.”
Such is Hamas' apparent hatred for the Jewish people.

(This student also invited everyone in the audience to visit "Hitler Youth Week"  hosted by the Muslim Student Association........this was held during Holocaust Remembrance Week......)

I shouldn't have to add that not all Muslims in the U.S.(or elsewhere) condone Hamas, because they do not, but that's just plain "common sense".

LOLA REIN AND HER DRESS
Please watch the video below, "Silent Witness" of an 8 year old Jewish girl, alone and hiding in a hole from the Nazis.  The video is from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. I wondered, after listening to the Muslim student above,  would she at all be moved by this little girl's account?  My prayer is that she would.

Or go to http://www.ushmm.org/museum/exhibit/online/ and scroll down to Silent Witness.
Read more about Holocaust survivor stories.

PLEASE BE INFORMED........PLEASE WATCH THIS AND THINK ABOUT THE ENORMITY OF THIS................when will they come for you?

In past years my husband and I loved to visit Mexico during our stay in Arizona.  We now do not dare to go close to the border towns.  This problem on Arizona's borders is not some make-believe TV News come-on...this is a REAL problem.......and unless you spend time here you may not understand what is happening in truth.  Why is Obama abandoning a state within the United States?  Surely his greed for votes can't be justified by sacrificing the people he is supposed to represent.  This has nothing to do with any of Bush's  left-behind messes.......this is failure as a "NOW" leader to protect U.S. Citizens!

Please read and understand these words.  http://curlywillowsranch.blogspot.com/2011/02/german-tribute-stamp.html

Catching up on what's going on in your life! :-) I've been just WAY too busy!! It'll be nice to have a breather!

I can't wait to get my hands in the soil again!! JOY!! I planted tomato seeds in a Jiffy 72 cell seedling planter (which I do every year). Most of the cells were planted with 2 seeds since my seeds were old. So far I have 96 tomato plants! Yikes! And I cannot bring myself to pull any of the doubles since tomatoes are my absolute favorite veggie (fruit). When I transplant to bigger pots I'll just divide the cells and plant each individual plant in a bigger pot. What I'll do with all those plants, I don't know!! Giggle!

Looking forward to seeing your garden progress!

Oh I cant wait to dig in the dirt...I will go to watch your videos but not today. I still am having a hard time wrapping my mind around the worlds events.I am not a racist by any means, being informed is not being a racist, unfortunately there are people who do not see it that way, they stick their heads in the sand and dont come out. If only a way to reach these unknowing souls. God bless us one and all...

Your idea for your garden has given me some ideas. I have been tossing them around for sometime. I even thought of those water troughs for cattle but the aluminium....NOT.

Fascinating story about the Silent Witness. Unbelievable.

Great post. About the gardening; we don't have room for a garden anymore; we downsized and not much to work on. That's OK. I have my hebes in pots hanging on my deck. We are considering planting our tomatoes in huge garbage cans, so they can be high enough to get teh sun. Any suggestions?

You've made me itchy to get out into my own garden. A friend just gave me a box of iris rhizomes from her yard - a great way to get started on the season. If only it weren't so darned cold out there!

Hey Carol!

My 6 yr old son can't wait to plant some seeds in the garden! Just yesterday he was talking about wanting to buy flowers and make a pretty flower garden for me. He's so sweet! The problem we have with the garden is the deer and then the droughts. Right now it is too wet. Come July/August it is too dry. Can't wait to see your gardens!

Have a Great Weekend!
